About Botox: Before Botox was even approved by the FDA for cosmetic use, Botox Injections were the third most popular non-surgical procedure with 855,846 patients in 2001. 55% of all Botox Injections patients were between the ages of 35 - 50. Botox Injections were FDA approved in April 2002 for cosmetic facial rejuvenation as it has been proven to smooth and even eliminate facial wrinkles such as forehead lines, frown lines, crows feet and neck bands. That year, Botox Injections was the top non-surgical cosmetic procedure with 1,123,510 Cosmetic Botox Injections performed! Botox is also used in conjunction with forehead lifts, facelifts, and eyelid surgery. Botox Injections works by relaxing targeted muscles. Typically the effects of Botox Injections last three to six months and must be repeated to maintain results.

Botox History

Botox Injections were first used in the late 1960s for neurological disorders, which has proven Botox Injections to be safe. Botox Injections's are also used for fighting migraine headaches; eliminating excessive perspiration, cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, and Parkinson's disease. To date, no systemic complications have been reported.

How Botox is Administered

Botox is injected directly into the muscle with a tiny needle. You may feel a burning sensation during injection. Patients can immediately resume normal activities, although, it takes a few days to see the results of the Botox Injections's. It lasts 3-4 months but you can have repeat treatments.

Risks of Botox

Local numbness, swelling or bruising. Scarring from the fine needle tip is possible. Some patients experienced temporary headache and nausea. Most complications are experienced for only a short period of time and can be avoided with finding an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon that is knowledgeable of the proper injection techniques. A small percentage experience no improvement. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) states on their website, "BTX injections for aesthetic purposes appear to be safe and effective."

Warning! Botox Injections should not be administered if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking certain medications. For example, effects may be increased with certain antibiotics. Inform your plastic surgeon of all medications you currently take.

My Botox Experience by a Site Visitor

The Botox Injections works great. I have done it once. I researched my plastic surgeon thoroughly. Can't be too careful even with a syringe of Botox Injections. The cost was $500. This was for my forehead and the lines b/w my eyebrows. You see some effects immediately, but the lines will diminish over a few weeks. It worked great for me.

It paralyzes the muscles, prevents the wrinkle from being formed. It is also used as a way to prevent / keep at bay so to speak.. any new wrinkles from being formed. It is supposed to last 3 - 6 months or so.

One side effect of the Botox Injections could be to perhaps making your eyelids droop...however, he injected something into my eyebrow area to prevent this although I can't remember what it was. My main concern w/ the Botox Injections was it being derived from bovine blood as a purified protein.. it is not.. it is a recombinant protein (made in the lab.. not isolated from blood products). However, I found out recently that the reagent does contain human albumin (isolated from human donor blood)... it is stringently screened. Take care and good luck!
